Surat Smart City Project, part of India's Smart Cities Mission addresses these issues by enhancing urban infrastructure, promoting sustainable development, and improving public services. With a population of over 7 million, Surat is one of the fastest-growing cities in Gujarat, necessitating effective strategies to manage its expansion. Key initiatives include integrated traffic management systems, a common city payment system, renewable energy projects, and ERP and GIS platforms for municipal operations. The project encompasses both Pan City and Area-Based initiatives. The Pan City proposal focuses on enhancing public services and citizen interface, particularly emphasizing Intelligent Transport and Connectivity to envision a more citizen-friendly Surat. Meanwhile, Area-Based interventions target sustainable economic growth and quality of life enhancements in specific areas, allocating 3% of Surat's total geographical area for transformation into well-planned urban spaces.
